Recycling is not voluntary...it is mandatory; it costs everyone money when people do not recycle
Please note: Plastic toys will not be picked up with recycling. To dispose of these items contact your garbage pick up company.
Monthly curbside collection of recyclable materials will be provided to all Hamburg residents as per the schedule below:

Please take notice, pick-up is done the full 4th
week of the month**
If your recycling day falls on a holiday, please have your items out by 3:00 am the next day. In the event of inclement weather the day of pick up, recycling will be picked up the next business day.
*Co-mingled recycling must be placed in re-usable containers, NOT plastic or paper bags.
**Paper recycling include the following:

Newspapers, Magazines, Junk Mail: must be bound in one-foot stacks and cross-tied or placed in reusable containers not to exceed 75 lbs.

Corrugated Cardboard must be flattened and cross-tied.
All recycling materials must be free of food and/or waste. Caps and lids are garbage and should not to be recycled. NO paint cans, plant containers or metal and plastic hangers will be picked up.
The following items WILL NOT be picked up with the recycling:

recyclables with trash mixed in
-
recyclables that are put out in plastic bags
-
containers holding more than 75 lbs. in recyclables
-
styrofoam - this is considered a solid waste and cannot be recycled

co-mingled and paper recyclables that are mixed together
In collaboration with Hardyston Township, Hamburg residents may participate in Hardyston can program by purchasing solid waste and recyclable cans at resident rate. They can be purchased at:

CALL
2 RECYCLE is the only
free rechargeable battery and cell phone collection program in North
America. Since 1994, Call2Recycle has diverted over 50 million
pounds of rechargeable batteries from local landfills and
established a network of 30,000 recycling drop-off locations.
Advancing green business practices and environmental sustainability,
Call2Recycle is the most active voice promoting eco-safe reclamation
and recycling of rechargeable batteries and cell phones.
Call2Recycle is operated by the non-profit Rechargeable Battery
Recycling Corporation (RBRC).
The Borough of Hamburg, The Hamburg Fire Department and Hamburg Elementary School are established collection sire for Rechargeable Batteries only.

The Recycling Center is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Items that can be recycled include commingled containers (glass, plastic and aluminum), chipboard (food, cereal and tissue boxes and other gray paperboard), cardboard, newsprint, motor oil, clothing, office paper, junk mail, household batteries, antifreeze and American flags.
Vegetation - Mulch and Compost: Sussex County residents can hand load regular mulch and compost for FREE. The SCMUA will load colorized mulch and compost for a nominal fee.
Monthly Shredding Service: Available the third Friday of each month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NOON for a fee of $6.00 per 40 lb. - NO LIMIT
