Recycling News: Containers such as juice boxes, milk, ice cream and other such items can now be placed with your co-mingled recycling

Now being recycled at SCUMA are plastic toys, 5 gallon buckets, Rubbermaid containers, Plastic Lawn Furniture, Little Tykes, Laundry baskets, Pet carriers, Milk crates, Plastic corrugated signs.

Monthly curbside collection of recyclable materials will be provided to all Hamburg residents as per the schedule below:

2018 Hamburg Recycling Schedule 

The 4th Tuesday of every month is co-mingled

Co-mingled: Must be placed in a reusable container. DO NOT place in plastic or paper bags.
– Co-mingled recycles include plastic, glass, mixed paper and metal

The 4th Wednesday of every month is paper

– Newspapers, Magazines, Junk Mail must be bound in one-foot stacks and cross tied or placed in reusable containers not to exceed 75 lbs.
– Corrugated Cardboard must be flattened and cross tied
– Shredded paper can be placed in a reusable, easy to empty container

All recycling materials MUST be free of food and/or waste. Caps and Lids are garbage and should not be with the recycling. Recycling should be put out the night before pickup or by 5:00 A.M. the day of pick up. If recycling pick up falls on a Holiday have the recycling out by 3:00 A.M. the following day. In the event of inclement weather the day of pick up, recycling will be picked up the next business day.

NOTE: The following items WILL NOT be picked up with recycling:

– Recyclables with trash mixed in
– Recyclables that are put out in plastic bags
– Contains holding more than 75 lbs. in recyclables
– Styrofoam-this is considered a solid waste and cannot be recycled
– Co-mingled and paper recyclables that are mixed together

In collaboration with Hardyston Township, Hamburg residents may participate in Hardyston Can Program by purchasing solid waste and recyclable cans at resident rate. They can be purchased at the Hardyston Township Municipal Building at 149 Wheatsworth Road, 973-823-7020.

Hamburg Residents may deposit recyclables free of charge at the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCUMA) Recycling Center located on State Highway 94 in Lafayette Township. The SCUMA Facility is open Monday-Saturday (except holidays) from 7:00 am- 2:00pm. For additional information on the SCMUA recycling center, please call 973-579-6998.

Since 1994, Call2Recycle has diverted over 50 million pounds of rechargeable batteries from local landfills and established a network of 30,000 recycling drop-off locations. Advancing green business practices and environmental sustainability, Call2Recycle is the most active voice promoting eco-safe reclamation and recycling of rechargeable batteries and cell phones. Call2Recycle is operated by the non-profit Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC).

The Borough of Hamburg, The Hamburg Fire Department and Hamburg Elementary School are established collection sites for Rechargeable Batteries only.

The Sussex County MUA Recycling Center is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Items that can be recycled include commingled containers (glass, plastic and aluminum), chipboard (food, cereal and tissue boxes and other gray paperboard), cardboard, newsprint, motor oil, clothing, office paper, junk mail, household batteries, antifreeze and American flags.

Vegetation – Mulch and Compost: Sussex County residents can hand load regular mulch and compost for FREE. The SCMUA will load colorized mulch and compost for a nominal fee.

Monthly Shredding Service: Available the third Friday of each month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NOON for a fee of $6.00 per 40 lb. – NO LIMIT
